Patch Club Is Back!

With Summer Reading long gone and Winter Reading still months away, Patch Club can be a great way to stay motivated to keep reading during the school year! Our popular reading program for children to earn patches by reading books is open to school-aged children or those who have completed or aged out of our 1,001 Books Before Kindergarten program. Participants must have an Algonquin Area Public Library District card.

Patch Club is available in two levels. Children may choose which challenge fits their reading level best. New this year, patrons may choose to log their reading on the Beanstack app, which may be familiar to those who have participated in our summer and winter reading programs! Traditional paper reading logs also will be available in youth services at both library locations.

Read to Me is for preschoolers who have completed 1,001 Books and children in kindergarten through second grade who are reading with or being read to by an adult. They will earn a patch for every 25 books they read, which they can choose when they complete their books. After earning their first five patches, readers will receive a tote bag to put them on! They can earn up to a total of 40 patches through the program.

Reading On My Own is for children in grades first through eighth who are reading chapter books independently. Readers are challenged to read outside their comfort zones by reading five books in specific genres or formats. They can choose their genre patch before they begin as a goal to work toward to read five in a row, or they can jump through genres, keeping track of each in Beanstack, and collect their patch once five have been completed. Click here for a full list of the genre and format patches available. After reading their first 25 books, readers will receive a tote bag to put them on! Readers can earn up to 21 patches throughout the program.

See a staff member at the Youth Services Desks at our Harnish or Eastgate locations for information or to sign up and get started earning those patches!
