You may have heard about the “summer slide”–kids forgetting or losing some academic skills over the summer break. While reading every day (and earning prizes to do so, through the Summer Reading Program!) is a great way to combat summer slide, AAPLD has other resources for our cardholders to take advantage of as well.
The Library subscribes to multiple databases that AAPLD cardholders can access for free. Here are some of our top choices for parents and tutors who want to keep kids’ skills sharp during their time off of school:
Educate Station : A free curriculum database for teachers, parents, daycare providers & homeschooling families. Ready-to-use, printable educational activities for kids to do at home or at school. Educate Station has a full curriculum, designed by real-life educators, for grades pre-K through fifth grade.
Scholastic Teachables: Worksheets, lesson plans, learning games, and more! Download printable lesson plans, reading passages, games and puzzles, clip art, bulletin board ideas, and skills sheets for kids in any grade.
Creativebug: Have a little artist on your hands? Creativebug has virtual arts and crafts classes for ages 4+. Watch classes anytime, anywhere. Since the classes never expire, you can start and stop projects at your own pace. No pressure, just possibilities!
Lote4Kids: Calling all bilingual households! Lote4Kids has children’s books in over 100 languages. From Afrikaans to Zulu, Lote has you covered.
