The Algonquin Area Public Library has had Halloween-brain and is shaking things up with seasonally fun events for fellow Halloween-loving patrons. We are hosting a Halloween dance party and have added a Halloween theme to our story times and other regular programs for a paranormal twist. Aside from haunted happenings in our very own library, there are more in Algonquin and other surrounding areas. Keep scrolling to find the perfect sweets or scares!

BOO PARTY & TRICK-OR-TREATING, noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 30, Algonquin Commons, Algonquin. Frightfully fun time with pumpkin decorating, face painting, magic show, live entertainment and music, as well as trick-or-treating at participating stores from 1 to 3 p.m. for children ages 12 and younger. HOWL–O–WEEN DOG PARADE, seventh annual, 1 to 2 p.m. Oct. 22, Village Hall, 2200 Harnish Drive, Algonquin. Owners and their dogs are encouraged to come dressed in costumes to parade from the Ganek Municipal Center to High Hill Park. Awards for Best Dog Costume and Best Theme Costume. HOWL–O–WEEN BASH, 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 29, Mandile’s Italian Ristorante & Banquets, 2160 Lake Cook Road, Algonquin. A Halloween-themed fundraiser A Heart for Animals, a nonprofit animal rescue organization. There will be a costume contest, disc jockey, dancing, 50/50 raffle and raffle items, silent auction, photo booth and more. All proceeds will go toward continued rescue efforts. GHOST STORY TRAIN, Oct. 15 and Oct. 22, Fox River Trolley Museum, 365 S. LaFox St. (Route 31), South Elgin. The Ghost Story Train takes visitors into the John Duerr Forest Preserve. Then they can gather around the fire and listen to spooky stories, sing campfire songs and eat s’mores. Costumes welcome. Suitable for all ages. The trolley departs at 5, 6:15 and 7:30 p.m. Cost: $13.20 a person. Tickets: www.foxtrolley.org.

FABLES FRIGHT NIGHTS, 7 p.m. through Oct. 31, Santa’s Village Azoosment Park, 601 Dundee Ave., East Dundee. Multiple haunted attractions with ghoulish scare zones, rides, food and other surprises. TRICK-OR-TREAT TRAIL, 1 to 2 p.m. Oct. 29, Lions Park, 1200 Silver Lake Road, Cary. Costumed children and their parents are invited to walk the Lions Park trail and enjoy games, prizes and more.
