Curriculum:

Cambridge Lakes Preschool blends the High Scope Curriculum philosophy with content from the Core Knowledge Sequence developed by E. D. Hircsh.

Learning is focused on the following eight content areas: Approaches to learning, Social and emotional development, Physical development and health, Language, literacy, and communication, Mathematics, Creative arts, Science and technology, and Social studies. While learning in these content areas prepares children for later schooling, it also takes the learning process beyond traditional academic subjects by applying methods that promote independence, curiosity, decision making, cooperation, persistence, creativity, and problem solving in young children.

Key Developmental Indicators (KDIs):
In the HighScope Preschool Curriculum, learning in these eight areas is guided by 58 key developmental indicators (KDIs) that meet all state standards. Each KDI is linked to one of the dimensions of school readiness, and each is a statement that identifies an observable child behavior reflecting knowledge and skills in those areas.

Facilities (classrooms, gymnasiums, ect.):

Cambridge Lakes Preschool is located on the campus of Cambridge Lakes Charter School. Preschool students have access to weekly library time, a dedicated preschool playground, and indoor space for gross motor movement. Based on the design of the school, preschool classes may also explore the parks and lakes of the neighborhood.

The Park District provides opportunities for the child to be with other children, fostering a development of wholesome social relationships. Age appropriate experiences are provided that contribute to the developmental needs of the child, as well as building important foundations for future academic skills.

Younger children are introduced to skills which will enhance their self-reliance skills while encouraging strong positive social interaction. We offer children enrolled in our program a sense of enthusiasm for learning about themselves and the world around them.
