Library Catalog Downtime This Weekend

Starting this Friday, October 18, all libraries (full list here) in the CCS Library Consortia will be operating in offline mode. This includes Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox River Valley, Huntley, & the McHenry libraries. Why? We are adding the Indian Trails Public Library District to the consortia. Indian Trails is located in Wheeling and once this process is complete, their materials will be available to you! All libraries will be going back online early next week: Monday or Tuesday is the hope. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

What does this mean for you?

You will not be able to manually enter your library card number into our self checkout machines. You will need your physical library card in order to check out this weekend.

Anything returned this weekend will not come off your library card record until the system is back online. As we will be operating in offline mode, it will be impossible for library staff to actually return anything. Materials will be stockpiled in our back rooms but not returned into the system until Monday or Tuesday.

You will not be able to access your online library card account. This includes making changes to your personal information, paying fines, and placing holds.

You will not be able to register for any program that requires a library card number to sign-up.

Some databases such as hoopla and Overdrive will still work but Kanopy, Creativebug, and Novelist will not work.

All of our catalogs will be running in offline mode using a copy of the catalog from Thursday, October 17th. This means that if something has been checked out on Friday 10/18 and you are looking for it on Sunday 10/20, the catalog will show that it is on the shelf. It is just as frustrating for library staff as it is for patrons but there is no other way to add a new member library’s whole catalog without taking the entire system offline.
